Activity 1: Oral and Written Questions
Answer the following questions orally and then write the answers in your notebook:
- Do you watch TV at home? List the serials/programmes you watch.
Answer: Yes, I watch TV at home. I watch programmes like Chhota Bheem, Doraemon, and National Geographic wildlife shows. - Do your parents watch TV? Which serials/programmes do they watch?
Answer: Yes, my parents watch TV. They watch serials like Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah and news channels like Aaj Tak. - What do you think may happen if you watch TV all the time?
Answer: If I watch TV all the time, I might become lazy, gain weight, and not have time to study or play. - What do you think will happen if you just sit at home all day and not play at all?
Answer: If I sit at home all day and don’t play, I might feel bored, become unhealthy, and miss out on making friends.
Activity 2: Reading Comprehension
Read the following passage:
Sharad was in Class 8. He was fond of watching TV. He had food in front of the TV, he did his homework in front of the TV, he talked to his parents in front of the TV, and he never went out to play. His parents also told him to go out and play, but he didn’t. Soon he started becoming fat. He got tired easily. But he continued watching TV. One day, he tried to sit in a chair at home, but he couldn’t fit in. He shouted, “Father, we need to get a bigger chair.” Sharad’s father said, “My dear Sharad, look at you! You’ve become a couch potato! You should go out and play.” Sharad started playing with his friends. Soon, he was able to fit in the chair again!
Answer the following questions in 1-2 sentences each:
- What did Sharad do in front of the TV?
Answer: Sharad had food, did his homework, and talked to his parents in front of the TV. - What were the changes in his body? What do you think was the reason for the changes?
Answer: Sharad became fat and got tired easily. The reason was that he watched TV all the time and never went out to play, leading to a lack of physical activity. - Why couldn’t Sharad sit in the chair?
Answer: Sharad couldn’t sit in the chair because he had become too fat from not playing and watching TV all the time. - What advice did his father give him?

Activity 3: Verb Form Practice
Complete the sentences with ‘was’ or ‘were’:

Read the following passage:
I am your best friend. I can do many useful things for you. I can store all your information. I can maintain your accounts. I can add, subtract, divide, and multiply any numbers. I can solve any mathematical problem very quickly. I can draw beautiful pictures and design buildings. I can print letters, applications, notices, reports, dialogues, etc., and can also make attractive invitation cards for many occasions. You can play games using me. You can listen to music or watch videos. You can take tests and check answers yourself. I am made up of the monitor, the keyboard, the printer, the CPU (central processing unit), and the mouse. I get commands from the mouse and the keyboard. The CPU is my brain. The software is my heart. Without it, I am completely helpless. I show output on the monitor. Do you know who I am? I am the Computer!

Activity 5: Ability Sentences
Write five sentences each about what you can do and what you cannot do. An example is provided:

Activity 6: Word Formation with ‘-less’
Form new words by adding ‘-less’ to the words given below. An example is provided:
- help – helpless
- use – useless
- fear – fearless
- taste – tasteless
- meaning – meaningless
- paper – paperless
Now, complete the sentences using the newly formed words:
- The railways has introduced a paperless ticket system; you can show the ticket on your mobile phone.
- The food at NHT Restaurant is tasteless; nobody likes it.
- Rani Lakshmi Bai was a fearless fighter against the British.
- This new mobile phone is useless; it stops working every 5 minutes.
- “Boundation” is an example of a meaningless word in English.

Read the following poem:
I was in the jungle, I saw a funny thing
A monkey had a mobile and it began to ring

Complete the sentences with the Past Continuous Tense forms of the words in brackets:

- Sharad was watching (watch) TV and not studying yesterday, so his parents scolded him.
