Republic Day is celebrated on January 26 every year. On this day, our constitution was adopted. In the national capital, New Delhi, the Republic Day parade is the star attraction. Before the parade begins, the Prime Minister visits the Amar Jawan Jyoti (‘the flame of the immortal soldier’) at India Gate and pays respect to soldiers. This is followed by the hoisting of the national flag by the President, accompanied by a 21-gun salute, and the singing of the National Anthem. The parade at Rajpath begins with the winners of bravery awards saluting the President. This is followed by a display of various tanks, missiles, and other equipment most recently added to the military. After this, there is a march-past of the different regiments of the armed forces, the paramilitary forces, the Home Guards, and the National Cadet Corps (NCC). The President of India, the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian** Indian Armed Forces, takes the salute. This is followed by an attractive display of exhibits and tableaus from different states. School children take part in various cultural programs. The final event of the day is the motorcycle daredevil riders and a fly-past by Indian Air Force fighter jets over Rajpath.
