Q.3 Read the following passage and make notes on it and also give a suitable title to it.
Passage-1 There are many different kinds of musical instruments. They are divided into three main classes according to the way they are played. For example, some instruments are played by blowing air into them. These are called wind instruments. In some of these the air is made to vibrate inside a wooden tube and these are said to be of the woodwind family. The examples of this family are the flute, the clarinet and the bassoon. Other instruments are made of brass: the trumpet and the horn are the examples. There are also various other wind instruments such as the mouth organ and the bappipes. Some instruments are played by banging or striking them. One obvious example is the drum, of which there are various kinds. Instruments like this are called percussion instruments. The last big group of instruments are the ones which have strings.
Passage-2 Friendship is a close and trusting relationship between two or more people. Good friends support each other in times of happiness and sadness. They share joys, sorrows, and experiences. A true friend is honest, loyal, and caring. Friendship teaches us qualities like kindness, patience, and forgiveness. In school, friends help each other in studies and sports. Spending time with friends reduces stress and makes life enjoyable. However, one should choose friends wisely because bad company can lead to harmful habits. A healthy friendship is based on respect and trust. Friends can motivate us to work hard and achieve our goals. Friendship is one of the most valuable relationships, and it should be nurtured with love and care.
Passage-3 Discipline means following rules and behaving in an orderly way. It helps people work together and achieve goals. In school, discipline ensures that learning happens smoothly. At home, discipline teaches children good habits like punctuality, honesty, and respect. In society, discipline maintains peace and harmony. Without discipline, there would be confusion and conflicts. Self-discipline is even more important—it means controlling one’s own actions without being told. People with self-discipline finish their work on time, make good decisions, and stay focused. Discipline is also necessary in sports, where teamwork and rules must be followed. A disciplined person earns respect from others and lives a balanced life. Whether at school, home, or in public places, discipline is the key to success and happiness.
Passage-4 Cleanliness means keeping our surroundings and ourselves free from dirt and germs. Personal hygiene includes habits like bathing daily, brushing teeth twice a day, and washing hands before eating. Clean surroundings prevent the spread of diseases. Waste should be thrown in bins and disposed of properly. Dirty water should not be allowed to collect, as it can become a breeding place for mosquitoes. Schools and homes should be cleaned regularly to keep everyone healthy. Cleanliness also creates a pleasant environment to live in. Many campaigns like ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ encourage people to maintain cleanliness in public places. Good hygiene habits should be developed from childhood. A clean body and clean surroundings lead to a healthy mind and a happy life.
